Abstract: Construction and conclusion (C&D) vegetation ofttimes contains aerated vegetation including vegetation aerated with chromated conductor arsenate (CCA). Many recycling options for much vegetation order that the creation be essentially liberated of preservative chemicals. The objectives of this think were to writing the characteristics of the vegetation squander course and to appraise the power of operation methods for identifying aerated wood. Sorting methods evaluated included seeable operation and seeable operation augmented with the ingest of PAN indicator bactericide and/or hand-held X-ray fluorescence (XRF) units. Experiments were conducted on digit types of cerebration and conclusion (C&D) wood: maker distributed loads containing exclusive C&D vegetation and vegetation hand-picked from commingled loads of generalized C&D waste. Results showed that 77% of the aerated vegetation was CCA-treated. For pure piles (<1% aerated wood) of maker distributed C&D wood, seeable operation was institute to effectively vanish the diminutive amounts of aerated vegetation present. For piles of maker distributed vegetation that were septic (not, vert, similar50% aerated wood), seeable sorts were not faithful and benefited from augmented operation using PAN indicator stain. The handheld XRF devices were institute to be trenchant for operation commingled C&D wood, as PAN indicator bactericide was not as trenchant cod to the unrestrained turn of opencast soil related with commingled vegetation waste. Visual operation of maker distributed vegetation was estimated to outlay between US$21 to US$96 per turn ton. These costs depended upon the turn of aerated vegetation and whether or not augmentation with PAN indicator was necessary. Visual operation augmented with hand-held XRF units was estimated at US$113 per turn ton. The magnitude of these costs were related with labor. Future efforts should pore on reaction fag costs by mounting automatic XRF units on courier systems.
